I thought you all would want to know that I just got another update from Cameo, our intrepid Freja fan who's braving the cold and elements out at the tents. Keep your eyes peeled at Anna Sui, because word around Bryant Park is that a certain someone will be walking that show for the first time ever. This is the same someone that opened and closed Oscar de la Renta earlier today. :) So if things hold true, that will be two brand new runway debuts for two different designers. New York is just full of surprises.
For us Freja fans, all the things we thought would never happen are happening. It's almost too much to handle and too good to be true. Anyway, thanks again Cameo! We love hearing your updates about Freja and it's awesome of you to face the nasty weather in New York. Stay warm!

Report from the Front Lines
If you can recall, last season we were treated to a lovely first hand Freja encounter by fan Cameo. This season, Cameo is once again on the front lines, bringing us news and pictures. Thanks Cameo!

I'm happy to report from Cameo that Freja is still as gracious and nice as ever. Freja remembered her from last season, signed her copy of Vogue Italia and stopped to chat with her for a bit. I know that that's nothing outrageous, but it's still nice to hear good stories like this. Despite all her years in the industry and all her recent success, Freja has stayed grounded and real. And that's a true rarity in an industry like this, and something I'll always respect. It's probably the main reason why Freja will always remain one of my favorites.
Btw, if you're going to repost these pictures anywhere, please, please, please credit Cameo. She was nice enough to share so we shouldn't take without giving credit where credit is due. Thank you, and thanks once again Cameo, for giving us insight from the tents! Get some sleep, stay warm and enjoy the rest of your fashion week!

March Magazine Madness
This deserves to be noted. Freja appears in five different editorials in five magazines for the month of March....yes, five.

The streak continues. And what amazes me is the caliber of the publications and photographers. With fashion week going on right now and Freja having her busiest day ever on tuesday with four shows, you have to wonder if the girl ever rests? She was clearly working hard in the months leading up to FW1011, and she's clearly working hard right now, so if she disappears for a bit after Paris, I think I'll understand why. I'm exhausted and we haven't even had a week of shows yet. We still have three more cities to go, but Freja doesn't have a London showcard so maybe she'll skip the city like usual to rest up? Or maybe she'll just make an appearance at Burberry? Like I've said before, no showcard doesn't necessarily mean no model. Stay tuned...

Freja by Meisel for US Vogue
Yes, you read that right. Pigs are flying, hell has frozen over, the fat lady has sung; employ whatever other cliche you can muster up to describe the situation because it's happening. Freja is in the March 2010 issue of American Vogue, shot by Steven Meisel. It's a studio shoot also featuring Lara, Liya, Karlie, Mirte and Rianne. (What a cast!) The biggest surprise of fashion week (for me) isn't happening at all on the runways, but in the pages of magazines.
I guess it was a matter of time before this happened though. We had inklings that more could come when Freja worked with Meisel twice in a row for Vogue Italia at the beginning of the year. And some of us knew an upcoming collaboration was imminent. Thanks to the excellent sleuthing by commentator Amber in the comments section of this old post, we saw this tweet nearly a week ago from a "model mole."
I didn't want to believe it at first because anyone can say anything on the internet. But they were spot on about the March collaboration. About the zero beef? Well, I don't know if I buy that part yet. But that's all water under the bridge now.
Maybe this editorial is the stepping stone to an only-girl editorial? A vogue Italia cover? A Meisel lensed ad campaign? The possibilities seem endless now, don't they?

Her Reputation Precedes Her
Freja opened the Y-3 show last night and her "performance" is causing quite a stir. The show was a fun, laser light spectacle with fun being the operative word.
Anyway, check out what some press are saying about it:
fibre2fashion: The show closed with a bang and the superhero theme came full circle as Mr. Yamamoto and a masked male model duked it out in front of the audience. Yamamoto emerged as the winner after the hardcore scuffle. That is, until tough-as-nails supermodel Freja Beha knocked the designer back down to the ground.
Racked: Finale! Yohji Yamamoto just practiced self defense in a laser circle, taking down a male model but beat by Freja Beha Erichsen. Of course.
Telegraph: And he even staged a mock “fight” where he felled a male model with a katate (sic) kick, but was then knocked down by a feisty supermodel, Freja Beha.
I guess her tough, androgynous reputation is well known, but in this instance I don't mind. So surprise number 1 of fashion week has already happened with this comical spectacle. I wonder what other surprises are in store for us? You know Freja always has a few up her sleeve every fahsion week. Whether they're good (like this one) or bad (like missing Paris fashion week) they definitely keep us all interested.
